Queer Fist 02:40
Do you remember when we went to that show two girls holding hands and kissing so slow Do you remember what those machos said to us? Then you told them that they weren’t so tough AND you said Don’t fuck with me cause I’m here and queer Gonna take this space back for the rainbow youth Now is about the time to burn that closet down Because we gotta We got a queer fist (All Yell) Raise it high Do you remember when we went to that march? At the queeruption so many people taking part We were so powerful and so many on the street That day Holding hands and walking tall don’t care what anyone would say And you say Don’t fuck with me cause I’m queer and here Gotta take the street back gotta claim or rights This ain’t our revolution if we can’t dance Because we gotta

Decolonise 03:17
You hang your head down ignore the problem Don’t want to think about the history It’s still here it’s still happening Racism doesn’t just go away Need to acknowledge the past Change the structures that oppress Self analyzing the privilege Confront racist ideas you been taught Become and ally decolonise Become and ally decolonise It’s a government sanctioned structure Tears of colonization stain White supremacy is a hegemony We gotta tear it down make it go away Our story is about the rebels Fighting for justice on stolen land Community projects building resistance Coming together to fight the man Become and ally decolonise Become and ally decolonise

Marta isn't coming home Mother waits by the phone Nobody knows your name when you work in a factory Life is hard when you live on the border Blame it on Nafta Blame on free trade Blame it on patriarchy It was a fuckin femicide Women’s bodies were found in the desert Desaparecidas Donde estan? Desaparecidas No estan! The phone keeps waiting on your call Your mother never saw your face again Your daughter is growing up alone No note no goodbye Justice for the women Women of Juarez Tear down patriarchy Fuck police and their corruption Justice for the mothers Mothers of Juarez Desaparecidas Donde estan? Desaparecidas No estan!

about

We started Monstera around the beginning of the pandemic to be a musical outlet and journey. We needed to tell the stories of the people in our community, tales of oppression, and success stories and our own lived experiences.

Our songs come from migrant voices and anarcho-feminist underpinnings we sing about the queer kids taking back spaces, about stopping sexist aggressions in the scene and building consent culture. We sing about friendship and weathering the storms in life. We sing about decolonisation in Aotearoa/ New Zealand and building community.

Queer Fist is a set of punk anthems for queer punks, rainbow folks, immigrants and underdogs everywhere! It is a labour of love and a method of resistance! Queer fist raise it high!
